Why Having a Healthy Body Matters so Much if You have ADHD

So you want to be more productive, make more money, and live a more satisfying life. You feel you deserve more but you can’t seem to get going on the right track and start living your true purpose in life.

Ask yourself what’s keeping you from doing that:

Is it a limited understanding of how and what to do to achieve your dreams? Most people are not stopped by a lack of knowledge, understanding or how to get their questions answered.  They’re stopped by their FEELINGS about them.

Is it because you didn’t have the right start in life, it’s too late, or it’s just too hard? These are some of the excuses we use to explain why we’re not happy, well adjusted and successful people. Again your negative FEELINGS are capable of stopping you cold in your tracks.

Isn’t it more likely that in our busy lives today, we become tuned out instead of tuned into our bodies? We’ve stopped noticing how important our physical condition is to an overall healthy, successful and rewarding life. When our bodies FEEL bad and lack energy, we FEEL bad and lose the optimism and enthusiasm so essential to positive growth.

We know that without good health we tend to be overweight, lethargic, under-inspired, lose our resistance to viruses and germs, and are more susceptible to serious diseases. Paying attention to our body is like taking care of our car: if we don’t keep it in good shape, it won’t run and we won’t go anywhere.

This isn’t hard to confirm. Look around you at the most successful people – those people who have the satisfying, prosperous and joyful life we crave. Watch them and you will find they know the importance of taking good care of their body. They understand how being fit has an important impact on their life. They’ll tell you that taking care of their physical selves is one of the main reasons they are living a life they love

So now we come to my recipe for good living (of course it spells love to help you remember it and what’s most important about it: loving yourself):

L          Loving, compassionate heart

O         Open, creative mind

V         Vigorous, agile body

E          Enlightened, peaceful soul

So what are YOU willing to do to have a vigorous and agile body so important to people with ADHD? Consider answering the following questions as a first step to your commitment to bringing better physical health into your life based on good eating and invigorating exercise:

*  How do I really want to look back on my life when I am 85?

*  What are the costs to my heart, mind, body and soul to continue living the way I do?

*  What are the benefits to living fully and completely in heart, mind, body and soul?

*  What am I willing to give up to have these things occur effortlessly in my life?

What if, as people with ADHD, we started saying yes to healthy practices when it comes to our physical health? We can start by being aware of twelve super foods that have the vitamins and minerals so important to our body: berries, broccoli, beans and legumes, whole grains (especially oats), leafy greens, the squash family, raw honey, almonds and nuts, olive oil, turkey, cacao (or dark chocolate), and wild salmon. The more we eat of these foods, the healthier we are because they supply the majority of the nutrients our bodies need for optimum health. We can also say yes to maintaining an exercise routine for the duration and time of day that works best for us. Even 15 minutes of aerobic exercise a day can keep us fit.
