Calm Abiding
February 22nd, 2010 by adminAnother benefit of calm abiding with ADHD is the opportunity to examine one’s life. I was thinking today about how I walk around day after day following the same routine. Sure that keep’s me on task and doing what I should, but what about things I don’t notice and could be missing out on? So I wondered what it would take for me to start noticing things beyond my every day field of vision? What could I do to think outside of the box and bring a fresh approach to things that could potentially bring me more satisfaction and happiness? After all, ADHD boredom is not usually the path to freedom and success!
I decided to trust myself to meditating on this question, practice calm abiding, then see what showed up. Indeed something did show up but before I share that with you guys, I really want to hear from you on this subject.
Please join the discussion. How do you feel about following established routines vs. trying new things and stretching yourself outside of your normal boundaries? How can we stay on track with our ADHD and still wander into other interesting territories?

Hi,
I have been trying some new, outside the box behavior in my exercise classes. Previously, I have participated at a level 5. I didn’t want to hurt myself and was accustomed to holding back. For the last 2 weeks I have been participating full tilt at a level 9.5. I’ve been giving it everything I’ve got. I love it. It makes the workout more interesting and I have something to be proud of. It’s less boring and the exercise is really good for my addled brain !!!
It’s not calm abiding, but it is outside the box and I’m very happy to have tried and learned that going all out does not kill me. It’s so much fun!!!
Thanks for your inspiration.
Nancy
Wow, Nancy. Congratulations on your achievement. You are an inspiration.
Now I want to go to the gym and do my 9.5 to so I can get what you got! It’s great to hear from your experience that going all out doesn’t kill you but instead can be fun and make you proud and happy. Please keep us caught up with your progress. As for the rest of you guys, I’ll meet you at the gym………………
